Hot damn! That's a helluva lineup.

Arrrggghhh--I was already having a hard enough time trying to decide whether to do HSBG this same weekend or B&BBQ the next. Although, unless I decide today this one will likely be moot, because it will probably sell out before I make up my mind.

One-day passes go on sale at 10 am, I think. $85 each, so $255 for the full weekend. Note, one day passes do not allow re-entry, so you can't do the refreshing mid-day dip in Barton Springs (though with the fest pushed from Sept to Oct, it might be cool enough to make that unnecessary).

if one was to pay for a one day pass for each day,.. would they send you a 3 day pass to allow that freedom to come and go??... and if not,.. why not??...they're still gettin' their extra 70 bucks,.. which is their goal i assume....

the vip equals the price of 10 individual one day passes,.. which is an extra 595.,.. pretty sure i might struggle to eat and drink 200. a day...

              No, they won't. I don't know why.

On the other hand, 3 one-day tickets are transferable, so you could sell one day and use the other two yourself, should plans change. The 3-day pass is a non-transferable wristband.

I've always enjoyed swimmin' at Barton Springs - and where else could you underground a thousand feet of stream into pipeline and then use the natural channel for a spring-fed pool, except for Texas (I'm Tejas-born, so I can kid).

Helluva ACL line-up, but how would you characterize the Saturday bill? It looks very SXSW-ish, and seems to put a lot of BNA's against one another on Fri/Sun.

In past years, Saturday has always been the quickest sellout - which makes sense, you have a big headliner, locals don't need to skip work, nor get up early for work in the morning. So I'm guessing they put the biggest draws on Friday and Sunday to try to even out the demand.

I'd characterize Saturday's bill as smart strategy. Stack Friday and Sunday with BNAs for whom people will travel, especially Phish and the Eagles, and they're more than likely to come for all three days (btw, I'd love to see Lucero and Monsters of Folk). Weather-permitting, Saturday is historically the biggest day of any three-day fest for obvious reasons; why not stack the other two days and take as a given that Saturday will be huge irrespective? I'm always surprised that Jazz Fest doesn't do that; it appears to do the exact opposite, putting the biggest draw of the whole Fest at the closing slot on Acura that day.

As but one example of the effectiveness of this strategy, a friend here in CT has been planning to attend ACL this year. But he and his girlfriend have child care and work scheduling issues, so they were planning to only attend a few days. Now that the schedule is out they are having a tough time deciding because the days they want are...Friday and Sunday. So now they're likely to do what it takes to attend the whole three days.
