    Murder Ballads

'Knoxville Girl' by the Louvin Brothers is the best murder ballad.

I think that Nick Cave may have put an album out called Murder Ballads many moons ago

I like Excitable Boy, but I guess it's not a ballad.

Also not really a ballad, but one of the roughest, toughest blues you will ever hear.
              And it's just scarily great.

This one kinda slipped past, but here’s a couple Where the murder’s happened or gonna happen:

Cold Rain and Snow, with the four of my favorite players/singers. Bonus to the incredibly sexy Bryn Davies on upright bass. I sincerely hope she continues to play after she achieves her academic pursuits (nuclear energy criticality - which caught her interest even before the rest of were quarantine binge-watching Chernobyl)

Long Black Veil - this time by Robert Earl Keen

So is that a murder ballad or is it only when it's done?

Otherwise i can again just contribute something from my homeland:

Forget the english lyrics, has nothing to do with the original. Better them from Bertold Brecht.

                      Sting sings it too:

Sounds drunk, but i love it, because he tried to speak German. <3

The first time I heard Garcia and Grisman do "The Wind and the Rain" the hair stood up on the back of my neck.

Later the song turned up on the "Song Catcher" soundtrack. But the man to tip your hat to is Jody Stecher who featured it on an early record.

Pat Hare's 1954 recording, unissued at Sun Records (the same summer Elvis first recorded) "I'm Gonna Murder My Baby" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E26d...&start_radio=1. And then he really did murder his girl friend, and the policeman who came to the scene, in 1963 when he was in the Muddy Waters band. Also, there are lots of lists if you Google "best murder ballads"
