I would much rather hear Anders with them than John Kadlecik.

Interesting article at www.JamBase.com about some possibilities concerning the nature of the Grateful Dead 50th Anniversary show(s)...

I hate to say it, but if Warren Haynes and/or John Kadlecik is chosen to play lead guitar, that would completely and resoundingly extinguish any desire I have to want to attend, although it's hard to imagine not being there, as the music of the Grateful Dead is literally the soundtrack of my life.

Steve Kimmock, Jimmy Herring, John Scofield, Anders Osborne, Carlos Santana, Trey Anistasio, Nels Cline, just about ANYONE else, but please leave Warren and JK out of it so I can actually Enjoy The Ride one last time...

            • Thanks for the "heads" up!...I had taped the 12.31.90 show w/ Branford off of Public Radio at a party I had that night....Listened to it hundred of times.....What a treat to finally see the fire dancers and bungee jumpers that I heard the "DJ" describe that night ...and the "Eyes" is just so sweet....thanks a million chops!

              • I went to that show and it was incredible. Hornsby, Jerry and Branford were almost in a semi-circle chasing each other's tails all night. The level of musicianship was just so high. Next to Halloween '91, that was the last truly great Dead show I saw.

                  • Contracts are signed... Lock'n two shows with the core four. Means acouple of things. Probably no tour. Probably going to go to festivals. Without AEG...

I would be shocked if the band doesn't do it's own, independent celebration comprised of a 2 (or even 3) show weekend at Shoreline featuring a full day of live music with all of the various solo projects (Phil & Friends, Ratdog, Rhythm Devils, etc.) followed by a nightly "Grateful Dead" reunion jam, which would be a draw for Deadheads all around the country, and a fitting way to showcase 50 years of the unique, improvisational music style that the Grateful Dead pioneered, and on some nights, perfected.

                      • Just listening to the Sirius show The Golden Road(??) on the Dead channel. They stated nothing has been signed or close. Not arguing or doubting, just stating what I heard.

Yeah, if what I am imagining turns out to be correct, it would likely be some weekend in July or August, which gives over 8 months for all of the necessary details to be worked out; It makes sense to me, held at "home" in the Bay Area (Shoreline is HUGE, with room for the throngs of Deadheads who would surely fly in from all over the country) with a mammoth potential payday for Bob, Phil, Mickey & Bill, assuming the tickets would run in the $50-$150 range.

(of course this is all academic for me personally, as I fully assume that Warren Haynes and/or John Kadelieck will be playing lead guitar for at least the GD portion of the show, which would completely kill any desire I had to actually attend, although I would be thrilled to be wrong about this)

Hey Matthew, why do you dislike and what do you dislike so much about those two guitarists?

Well MM , the Lock'n deal kind of says no AEG shows, or tour and that means NO Shoreline, which sucks ass anyway. My opinion is they do their own festival, with Another Planet,at Laguna Sega, the only venue large enough and one that they do not have bad relations with in Norcal. Memorial day, no competition that weekend.. After that is is tough to find a weekend that is open until October.
And the Lock'n deal was done long ago, I posted about it months ago.
I for one would dislike Hornsby, warren,Scofield, Kimock, anders in the band. I loveJk and would be happy with one of the guys that nails Jerry. Dave A Bear, Barry Sless, Stu Allen, that I can hang with. Hornsby would mean him in the spotlight, his songs and he only plays piano, not a full keyboard array.( and accordion too, but that brings up a whole nother set of problems.)
I would love if Russo played and then the rythmn devils did their thing. Russo kills me.

Everything I wrote was a total WAG (wild ass guess) on my part, and only based on what I assume makes the most sense for band, both logistically and financially, so we will all see what actually pans out, one way or another...

(and as far as what weekend they will choose to hold the celebration, I can obviously see them not wanting to compete with one of the major annual music festivals---Bonnaroo, Outside Lands, High Sierra, etc.---but as far as one of the many minor festivals held each year in smaller market areas, I just don't think that would factor into the equation; This is going to be a HUGE deal for tens of thousands of Deadheads, most of whom are now firmly middle class and middle-aged and who can afford to fly to San Francisco for a nostalgic musical weekend)
