Sharon, I saw the Grateful Dead in Cuyahoga Falls Ohio in 1985. I forgot to mention that I did catch them in Minneapolis OPENING for Bob Dylan (who's band was Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers)...The last show in 95 if you remember featured a double encore...Black Muddy River with Phil who must of sensed something whipping out a Box of Rain. Then came the fireworks. beautiful night. RIP Jer

Been enjoying the Alaska run of 1980 on archive.org, what a great three shows.
SET ONE: d1t01 Tuning d1t02 Jack Straw > d1t03 Franklin's Tower > d1t04 Mama Tried > d1t05 Mexicali Blues d1t06 Friend of the Devil d1t07 Let It Grow > d1t08...
This was when Jerry would hold up in his room smoking heroin all day and only emerge for the sound check and show. He sure came to life onstage and played brilliantly during this run.

I absolutely loved the setlist from last Sunday! But going back and re-visiting your post.. I am torn which setlist I'd prefer overall...! I'm thinking Sunday's, but the fact that I was there just might have something to do with it
My own personal highlights were Wheel & Unbroken Chain.
What a great time...

(Our ol' friend Lit looks quite content as well---)

I really need to re-engage with what Bob and Phil are doing these days, as they were such a huge and vital part of some of the happiest, most fullfilling nights of my life, and their music still speaks to me in a way that is almost impossible to describe.
I guess since Garcia checked out, I have been a little distant from what the others in the band have been doing, but it's time for me to give it a new listen with fresh ears. It's amazing the old material that they have dusted off, songs that I never thought would be performed again.
The Grateful Dead may be just a memory, but Bob, Phil, Mickey and Billy are still some of the music world's most talented artists, and I hope that they continue to play for years to come, continuing a partnership and musical brotherhood that began over 40 years ago.

I am so glad that you all were able to get together and Enjoy The Ride!!!
Matthew (who now is looking for a good time to catch a FURTHUR gig, and smiling as I recall so many shining nights spent with the sublime and glorious music of the Grateful Dead---)

Reading this thread has put me in a mood of reflection on the music of the Grateful Dead and what it continues to mean to me in my daily life, over 15 years since the end of their legendary run.
For anyone with a few minutes to enjoy some truly awe-inspiring music, both melancholy and triumphant at the same time, steeped in passion and emotion, check out www.Archive.org and get to the September 18th, 1994 Shoreline Ampitheater version of "So Many Roads".
During this song, Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead were a conduit to a Higher Power, a medium to some sort of life-energy that surrounds us all, a fleeting glimpse of universal truth.......
It was a moment that I will remember for the rest of my life.
(I don't know how to link stuff like this, but if anyone does and wants to post a link for those interested, it would be much appreiciated)Last edited by MormonMatthew; 12-01-2010, 02:41 PM.
