Glad to see they are hitting the west coast again. Wish they would do a NOLA stop sometimes.

    • This article from The Maine Edge includes a great conversation with Terry that articulates the NRBQ ethic and interviews with newer members Scott and Casey. Touring again in June so check nrbq.com:

      • Saw them last night. They are absolutely unstoppable-- Played 2 1/2 hours at City Winery on a weeknight, which just isn't done. Many songs I hadn't heard in forever-- "Girl Scout Cookies," "When Things Was Cheap," "Boozoo, That's Who" and more. This lineup can and will play any song from any era of the Q, and play it great.

Tell it, Brett! Those of you out there who have never seen a live NRBQ show are missing a significant American musical event. And Brett is right about the "new Q" who not only know the considerable original back catalog but the hundreds of possible covers they could pull out and are also writing their own additions and adding to the magic of a unique band who don't know their set list until the show is over. They're busy boys this summer so there are plenty of chances to see them. I'm catching them on the two Virginia dates. Can't wait! Here's the rest of the tour dates which includes west coast shows:

June Saturday 11 Ocean Mist South Kingstown, RI
June Sunday 12 Infinity Music Hall Norfolk, CT

Probably just enough not to have to pay them.

                • Birchmere in Alexandria tonight and Bright Box Theater in Winchester, VA tomorrow night. Any Threadheads going to any of these shows?

                  • A reminder for you lucky West Coasters that the boys are coming your way. You could go to all of these shows for less than the price of one Springsteen ticket and, unlike the Boss Hog, all the shows will be different!

We’ll be at Harlow’s (Minus Five opening!). Did a sloppy version of Ain’t No Free last night to ramp up the excitement.

Blaze Foley used to play a fun "Girl Scout Cookies". Not sure I believe he wrote it when he was 9, though. Sure wish NRBQ would come down this way (south) more often.

Recorded May 20, 1984 at the Loading Chute in Temple, Texas, a tribute for the late Clyde Buchanan. This video features Blaze with Townes' "Blues Band" featu...

                        • The boys will be heading out again soon. I'll make the Leesburg, VA show at the Tallyho Theater, a new venue for me. Wish I could get to some more of these gigs, but time is a little tight these days. Also, a great sounding new CD is available of a live show from 1983 called Park Lake 83. This is the second, and perhaps best known, NRBQ lineup featuring Big Al Anderson, Tom Arodolino, Joey Spampinato and Terry with Donn and The Whole Wheat Horns heavily in tow. Omnivore Discs does a great job on sound and this is probably as good a capture of the loose/tight full throttle Q from that era available yet, a real example of what a wild night was back then. Check out nrbq.com or Amazon for copies. Be nice to run into a Threadhead in Leesburg. Also try the CD in the "while wasted" mode and report back on that thread.

Thanks for the review on that Park Lake CD. I’ve been eyeing it on their website for a couple months; I don’t but many CDs these days but I just made an exception for that one.

Planning to catch the Norwalk, CT show.
