I'm heading out to Leesburg, VA, tomorrow for a Q show. Any Threadheads or lurkers going to be there? Would like to make the DC show the next night, but probably can't swing that.

I've probably posted this before, but this article about a teenage Terry Adams and his introduction to the music of Thelonious Monk, his immediate obsession with that music and the relationship that eventually developed between the jazz great and the young keyboardist reveals much about what a unique band NRBQ is. Gotta absorb this stuff while it lasts.

Great cover of Spiral Starecase's "More Today Than Yesterday" was a highlight for me; others included "Crazy Like a Fox" and "Magnet," two of my lesser-known NRBQ faves.

Looking for it. I think most attendees are still recuperating. Terry and the boys have been going pretty deep into the Q catalog and also throwing out some surprising covers. John Perrin's drums are really starting to get a Q feel now. He's been in the band for 5 years and Casey on bass just celebrated his tenth. Scott Ligon on guitar has been with the band almost as long as Al was!

Wow! What a find. Steve Ferguson is an unsung hero of the guitar, for my money better than Al. Frankie Gadler had the big, fun voice. Tom Staley drove the band like a locomotive. Why Joey used a stage name is anybody's guess. Donn on board is always fun. This same set list could have been played at the band's most recent show. NRBQ emerged whole. This will be my evening listening. Thanks!

The NRBQ Breakfast With The Arts segment has resurfaced on Youtube. Long time Simpsons' producer Mike Scully made this for vh1 which changed its format and dropped it only for it to resurface on A&E's Breakfast With The Arts at 8:30 on a Sunday morning (how's that for rock and roll?). Now over twenty years old it documents the "early" (first thirty-five) years of the band with the majority of the footage of the Spampinato(s)/Big Al/Tommy Ardolino years. It features Keith Richards, Earl Palmer(!), Mike Mills, Peter Buck, Widespread Panic, Elvis Costello, Harry Shearer, Homer Simpson and Bonnie Raitt (making the Beatles comparison for which I was so ridiculed and derided for quoting on this lovely old Forum). Scully had McCartney on board but scheduling issues ensued. There's some great footage of what many consider "the classic" Q doing what they do and it's fun to watch. Fans will dig it. The live shows with the current band have the same magic and musicianship. Well, that's enough of my yakking. Whaddaya say? Let's boogie!

+100 %!! There is a band here in Austin called the Drakes that play free every Wednesday at the Saxon Pub that is kind of "Q"esque. Worth a listen if you're in town.

I agree, and thanks for the Drakes tip, barrymojo! I don't know why whoever posted this on Youtube called it "a bad documentary", but I guess that it was because Scully didn't go into the Steve Ferguson/Tom Staley/Frankie Gadler years. I think it's fun for those who know the band and a great introduction to those who don't. You Threadheads who don't get what I've been going on about for so much should check it out.
