Restaurant recommendations (2016+ edition)

Any new restaurants opened up in the last year that I should give a try? Have reservations at both Luke and Cochon already as I know what to expect since we've been there before, but wanted to see if anything else has popped up recently that's worth checking out.

Much of New Orleans seems to be going crazy over Shaya. It doesn't really interest me at all, but I could see how it might appeal to people who don't have access to Israeli cuisine.

Carrollton Market is getting good reviews from people I know, I have not been there yet. I went to R'evolution last weekend. The food was good, but on the whole the experience does not need to be repeated.

I made a reservation at Shaya that I cancelled because I have Zahav in my backyard here in Philly.

Compere Lapin is currently on my radar. As is Shaya, but no Israeli food here in Huntsville. Also looking at Kin and possibly El Libre.

Just tossing this out there for admins: Over the past few years we've had a plethora of food/restaurant threads each year instead of just one. Could we possibly pin this one to keep the foodie questions (hopefully) in one place? One pinned thread would hopefully make it easier for folks with questions/comments/thoughts/suggestions to comment and search.

Food is very important around here - it deserves a place of prominence!! The 5-10 food threads last year were a little much.

Yeah, not wild about Shaya. I ate at R'Evolution 2 years ago and really enjoyed it, but wish I hadn't done a 2 hour lunch at Cochon on the same day! My belt size grew by 3 sizes that day.

I'm hoping to check out Bennachin on Royal next trip. I saw it as i was walking around after lunch last month, and saw it was the folks that has the Congo Square booth with the yogurt w/couscous, pineapple, coconut and raisins, which i love at the Fest. So sat down for another in the restaurant, cool little place, focused on foods from Gambia and Cameroon. Inexpensive, particularly at lunch, byob....

Pelican Club in the Quarter isn't a new place but I really love it. We went there for a revillion dinner this year which was actually the same 4 course prix fixe menu they have year round, with the addition of a lagniappe of bourbon eggnog. Everyone was happy with everything they chose. Don't miss the chocolate decadence cake.

One of my new favorite places is Cowbell on Oak Street. It's not a cheap date but everything I've had is outstanding. I think the fries are the best in town. ONJ swears by the figgy toast which I still have to try. And the mac and cheese is a do not miss if that's your thing.

I thought Maïs Arepas was really good/different. The pineapple cilantro margaritas are the goods.

I didn't eat anything that I didn't love, sort of off the beaten path too.

Fest day or no Fest Day? I like Commander's for lunch, and as long as you aren't wearing shorts or jeans, the dress code is much more lax. Khakis and a collared shirt would be perfect. A little more casual is Muriel's in the French Quarter, which I go to just to have the crawfish crepes (my favorite!) If you want casual and have a car, Willie Mae's is my favorite fried chicken in the city!
