  • Who likes Locals Thursday? [1st Thursday Added]

    Let's play two.

I LOVE Locals Thursday. Smallest crowds of the Fest. So much easier to make a day of it wandering from stage to stage, hitting the food booths with next to no lines. I go even if the acts are not my favs just to have a Jazz Fest day like I had when I first started going,

If anyone is planning to get a brass pass, you might want to get it right away. If they add an eighth day, there's a high chance of a brass pass price increase very soon after the official announcement.

Hmmm..... April 25 IS a Thursday, isnt it????
It would not be the first time they tried a "first Thursday" and wow was it empty the one time they did it.
It also ruined my pre-fest kickoff moving it to Wednesday night, when absolutely NO ONE local was willing to do anything.
If memory serves (and there's a lot of booze and dope under the bridge since then) they also had 3 weekends for one year, also without success.
I'm sure cube rescue could tell me all these answers.

I'm with you on the smaller crowds and being able to move. Plus I believe locals can buy 2 tix at the box office with ID, so all an out of towner has to do is buddy up.

                      http://www.nojazzfest.com/news/50th-...dds-extra-day/

New Orleans, LA (November 9, 2018)—Producers of the 50th anniversary Jazz Fest have decided to mark the milestone event with something special: the addition of another day of the signature festival celebrating New Orleans music and culture. Thursday, April 25 will now be the opening day of the 2019 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival presented by Shell. Both of the event’s weekends will run Thursday through Sunday, April 25 – 28 and May 2 – 5.

The Festival also announced that the new day will be “Locals Thursday,” which allows anyone with a valid Louisiana ID to purchase up to two discount tickets at the gate on that day. “Locals Thursday” discount tickets will again be only $50.

The lineup for the 50th anniversary Festival and ticketing information will be released in December. Started in 1970, Jazz Fest annually celebrates the unique culture of New Orleans and the region drawing fans from around the country and around the world.

In celebration of the 50 years of Jazz Fest, today the Festival begins a weekly look back at the people, places and things that have helped make the event part of the culture it presents. Fans can look forward to seeing footage from the first Jazz Fest, images of Festival favorites through the years and much more. Look for Jazz Fest Memories and #JazzFest50 social media posts on most social media platforms.

I'm beginning to think from that announcement that there may be two Thursdays, but only one "Locals Thursday" and it's 4/25.

Nice. There were December lineups in 2009, 2010, 2012, but not since. Those years, they gave us by-weekend listings, with the dailies following in January.

2009 was my first year. So this is NOJHF's 50th but my 10th Jazz Fest-aversary.
Thank you jazz fest for forcing my hand to book my flight. My credit card company applauds you.
