  • First Saturday Cube Projections

After a very mellow, ho hum Friday, Saturday is just full of FOMS. I've seen pretty much everyone at the bigger stages, so as I note below, could well be a smaller stage kinda day for me. Also, lots of acts that could play multiple places, so this is wildly inaccurate. But still amusing in these days when the mind can drift to darker thoughts. So, here goes:

Acura: Anders, Low Cut Connie, Samantha Fish, Revivalists, Who

Gentilly: George Porter, Dirty Dozen (Bartholomew Tribute), Playing for Change Band, Subdudes, Rickie Lee Jones, Avett Brothers

Congo: Erica Falls, Shamarr Allen, Next Era R&B & Hip Hop, Pell, Soul Rebels, HER

Blues Tent: Michael Juan Nunez, Major Handy, Little Freddie King, Lil Buck Tribute, Sonny Landreth, Musselwhite

Jazz Tent: Neslorchestra, James River, Trumpet Mafia, Leah Chase, Antonio Sanchez, David Sanborn

Fais Do Do: Jourdan Thibodeaux, Revelers, Creole String Beans, Puss n Boots, Shovels & Rope, Keith Frank

Economy Hall: Louis Ford, LA Rep Jazz, Treme Brass Band, Bessie Smith Tribute, Dr. Michael White, Tuba Skinny [This could be a day where I do nothing but bounce back and forth between Fais Do Do and Economy Hall]

Gospel Tent: Spiritualettes, Bester Gospel & Smooth Family, Gospel Inspirations Boutte, Mt Hermon Baptist, Johnson Extension, Christian Unity, Irma, Archdiocese Choir [may have to add time in Gospel Tent, though – Spiritualettes, Johnson Extension and Irma – too much goodness, I might walk out born again!]

J&H Stage: Mardi Gras Indian Rhythm, Free Agents Brass, [Puerto Rico option], Young Fellaz Brass, [Puerto Rico option], Dr. Brice Miller [didn’t see a lot of regulars to put here]

Lagniappe: Matt Lemmler, Doucet, Quintana, Viator, Sasha, Helen Gillet, Lane Mack, Bill Kirchen [ok, maybe a Fais Do Do, Economy, Gospel & Lagniappe walkabout kinda day]

Culture Tent: La Raiz, Esencia, Nieves, Plena Callejera, Comparsa, Kumbuka African Drum
Rhythymporium: Mikayla Braun; Doucet, Quintana, Viator; Helen G? [really uncertain here, per usual]

Last year Revivalists closed out Gentilly. Could they do the same & Avett Bros gets the pre-Who slot?
