    • Feeling optimistic for Fall Festivals in New Orleans, as Covid numbers are down as vaccinations continue to increase, but can't help but wonder if it makes sense to hold TWO Jazz Festivals in 6 month time frame ?? As an attendee, once a year is enough as it takes a lot out of you, energy wise and financially.

      • I don't know about the reason for the seemingly coordinated timing, but over the past 48 hours at least a dozen of the largest European music festivals have announced their 2021 cancellations, which they of course spin as "Postponed until 2022" (in all cases that is after being "postponed until 2021" last year) but they will graciously hold your ticket Euros for you which theoretically can be put towards tickets for future festivals surely to come.

With every EU country having its own set of laws and rules regaurding travel restrictions, most which seem to change every couple of weeks, holding a successful festival over here is currently all but impossible, logistically speaking.

Looks like another very quiet summer in Europe, which makes the possibility of Jazzfest in October even that much more enticing, if things work out that way. I guess time will tell, but having tens of thousands of people fly into your city for a much anticipated celebration that gets cancelled at the last minute wouldn't be great for future business, so I don't see NOJ&HF leaving things up in the air if there is a realistic chance of that happening.

Perhaps, but we didn't spend any $$ on JF in 2020, so Fall '21 and Spring '22 will work for us 70-somethings, the clocks are ticking....

              • There are usually not many shared acts between Bonnaroo and the JazzFest. But, I do see a handful of acts who will likely play the JazzFest in my estimation - Brittany Howard, Leon Bridges, Jon Batiste, Larkin Poe, Marcus King Band, Christone "Kingfish" Ingram, Bill Frisell, Jason Isbell, Lana Del Ray, Pinegrove, Greensky Bluegrass, Makaya McCraven, Waxahatchee, Janelle Monae, Flogging Molly.

I think Quint's wish list starts with everyone who had been scheduled for 2020. Of the names you list, that's Brittany Howard, Christone "Kingfish" Ingram, and of course Jon Batiste. Not to says the others aren't possible, obviously not all the 2020 performers will be available, so there's slots to fill. But given that Bonnaroo means they're hitting the festival circuit this fall, those three seem close to locks.

                    • Talk about underwhelming. The few artists that I'd really want to see are on the bottom rows in the small print. haha.

If Makaya McCraven plays the fest, I really hope Nubya Garcia who has played with him and is also playing Bonnaroo also plays the fest. London Jazz at it's best! Haha!

                        • I saw Makaya McCraven at Winter Jazz Fest in NYC last year right before the pandemic began--it was a great set (with Brandee Younger, Joel Ross, Greg Ward, Marquis Hill, Junius Paul).

That would be an excellent booking.

                            • I booked my airfare and I'm looking forward to crushing some cold ones with MG and Stacy at Gentilly stage in a few months. Don't care who is playing.

Conventional wisdom in the medical community so I am told holds that the covid vaccinations effectiveness is roughly five months. Everyone in America vaccinated by May 1 and let me see, one, two, three, four, five months. Well darn, holy smokes, just as everyone's vaccine is losing it's effectiveness along comes Jazzfest.
Well now, my oh my. Swag and the other sycophants who jumped on the Bandwagon, Hey now, perhaps you're correct, and perhaps you are not? As I said previously, I just know what I read. I hope the vaccinations last a lifetime. That would be grand and only time will tell. For the record however, in spite of what the medical professionals here on this forum declared, today Pfizer said six months.
