That 76% have chosen not to be tracked by Bill Gates?

        Map: https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#county-view

Cameron Parish is under 17% adult vaccination, but that's the coastal area south of Lake Charles, I wonder is that data is skewed by the effects of Hurricane Laura; many residents have still not yet returned. St Helena parish, north of Baton Rouge, is at 25%. Those are the only two under 30%. Most of the non-urban parishes are in the 30-40% range

          • More implications regarding the COVID variant and susceptibility of already-vaccinated folks. Here’s a thoughtful Twitter thread from Andy Slavitt, recently of the Biden COVID task force, addressing the specter of waning vaccine efficiency. Ugh. Now the olds have to decide whether we’re going to get a third booster shot - while the not-vaccinated group is headed into a very uncertain second half of 2021 (no blame, just concern - a LOT of the unvaccinated are kids, who I mentally separate from the not-vaccinated).

            • As COVID cases tick up, New Orleans officials weigh mask rules for fall events for unvaccinated

              https://www.nola.com/news/coronaviru...4d4cd61e6.html

With cases of the more transmissive delta variant of the coronavirus rising in Louisiana and across the U.S., New Orleans officials on Tuesday warned residents to take precautions and asked them to get vaccinated if they haven't already.

“Delta is here, delta is dangerous, and delta is killing people. This should scare the hell out of you,” said Beau Tidwell, spokesperson for Mayor LaToya Cantrell, during a news conference. “The message from the mayor is that this is very serious, and you need to get your shot. We can’t be more clear or more stark than that.”

Underscoring how seriously the city is taking the delta variant, Tidwell said that the fight against COVID is not over and if New Orleanians are not careful things could go “back to square one.”
              ...
[Dr. Jennifer Avegno, director of the New Orleans Health Department] said the city may be looking at implementing a mandatory mask mandate at upcoming events like New Orleans Saints games and festivals unless individuals have proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test.

“We would all love to have large events that did not require some degree of mitigation, and before delta [we were] maybe a little more confident that we would get there. We really need to see what happens with delta,” she said.

              • If they require masks for unvaccinated, and make it on the "honor system," it will work about as well as it's obviously working now. Of course, despite all appearances, there's no real assurance where New Orleans or America will be 3 months from now. The next 3 weeks will be very telling of the direction things are headed, as we absorb the impact of July 4th celebrations and gatherings.

They said Postponed. It was supposed to be my 1st Live Concert since February 5, 2020.

If that many people got infected at the fest itself, that would be shocking, even if they were unvaccinated. Because in the worldwide history of Covid, I'm not aware of another superspreader event that was outdoors. The article notes that there's no way to know exactly where the spread happened, it could have been traveling to the city, or in the clubs and restaurants around town. Not that puts Jazzfest in the clear, even if the outdoor Fairgrounds itself is safe, people will mingle in clubs and restaurants here too.

                        • The Saenger re-opens tonight. It had been closed since before the pandemic from the Hard Rock collapse. They're allowing full capacity, and the show is sold out or close to it - but they are requiring attendees to wear masks for the entire show. That's much easier to enforce in a show with assigned seating than at a festival, of course.

That's Delta for you. Far more infectious (but not more virulent). You have to assume anyone unvaccinated will catch it. So if you haven't already, make sure all your loved ones are vaxxed up.

There isn't decent tracking to be sure, but there are many big outdoor events that are believed to have been superspreaders. From the early 2020 spread in Italy -
