I enjoy both immensely. I just stumbled upon Bombino several years ago as he was an opening act for someone that I do not recall. Now I go see at every opportunity.

Great new albums out by Mdou Moctar and Jupiter And Okwess.

I have heard a lot of good reports on the new Mdou Moctar album. I actually prefer Bombino but that's splitting hairs. And I keep waiting for Jazz Fest to make Mali their international focus.

While Jupiter & Okwess have been a welcome addition, I think the fest has really fallen apart on African acts. I was turned on to Baaba Maal, Angelique Kidjo and many more by their sets at Congo. I've long blamed the so-called "muslim ban", rightly or wrongly. But I would love to see more acts like that out at the fair.

I'm guessing no focus country for Fest '21. International travel is still too restricted and uncertain. They will find something domestic for the Cultural Pavilion, like the years they celebrated NOLA 300 or NOCCA.

Wouldn't be surprising to also see a Fairgrounds slot.
