The New Mastersounds @ HOB May 6 & 7 is now cancelled...
"Hello friends. After weighing all the information, as a band, we have decided that until there is no more mention of ‘that’ word, NMS will not be touring in the US.
Given our unique position of being dotted all over the world, the current state of touring is too fragile and the economics are too risky for the band to leave their respective homes to tour the US for weeks at a time. It’s an unfortunate reality we have to face and not one we have taken lightly. All further US shows are now cancelled (not postponed). Please contact the venue directly for refunds on purchased tickets.
We hope we will be back at it once things are 100% settled. Until then, stay safe and keep it funky!
Eddie, Simon, Joe, Pete & Lamar"

Is that date correct, meaning, despite the title, this is happening during jazz fest and is not part of the instigation festival?

Re the broadside: I was only there once, this past fall for Andrew Duhon’s BreakFEST which was ideal for me and considering Beylin’s points regarding lower overhead = greater freedom; I hope the Broadside continues to be a venue where events like Andrew’s are able to flourish. Because it was just right. I found the portopotties to be clean and maintained.
also, not to thread drift but I just want to chime in on the chairs: I’m short with a shorter torso and longer legs and those Adirondack chairs are GREAT for me. I don’t totally understand how or why but they work. I dislike elevated bar stools- I find I sit slouched (probably something about height and balance) and it gives me asthma trouble. It’s weird, I know.

Email from Airlift / Music Box Village:
Jazz Fest will bring far-flung sounds to our audiences. Les Filles de Illighadad are aTuareg band founded by Fatou Seidi Ghali in Illighadad, a village in theSahara Desert in Niger. Ghali is a trailblazer, an acclaimed guitarist in a region where female players of the instrument are a rarity. She and her bandmates are innovating the traditional tend้ form—a term used both for the music and its signature drumming—fusing its transcendent chanting with the Tuareg “desert blues” sound. We are delighted to be a stop on their first US tour since 2019!
{Friday 4/29}
They are followed by a deep dive into the sounds of musical architecture by Mars Williams, a Chicago-based heavy weight in avant garde and rock circles. After encountering Music Box in 2018 during the Instigation Festival, he was determined to musically compose and direct a show for our invented instruments. He will realize this vision, generously supported by a South Arts Creative Residencies Grant, with a huge roster of local and visiting musicians including guitar great Nels Cline, jazz visionaries James Brandon Lewis and Ben Lamar Gay, and cellist and chanteuse Helen Gillet.
