I am eligible for a booster shot from the 4th of Jan and will get it as soon as I can.

Anything that helps reduce the risk of serious illness from catching Covid is worthwhile as far as I am concerned and keeping hospital admissions down is greatly required.

So I do not know why anyone would not want to take every precautionary measure possible .

Lets us hope that the New Year means better times ahead.

I'm not a big fan of the shots and will probably stop taking them as soon as restrictions ease. I've never even gotten a flu shot. That being said, we will probably get our booster this week. Do whatcha ya gotta, then do whatcha wanna !!

Same here. I too have never gotten a flu shot but as crazy as it sounds I've now gotten all 3 vaccines. Started with J&J in March, got a Pfizer shot in July as I was doing a lot of traveling and just got a Moderna booster last week as I plan of doing more traveling in a few weeks. No adverse reaction from the last 2 at all. I'm really hoping that is it!

Am I the only one who cannot help but notice the irony that the majority of those coming down with the variety of viral conditions have all been vaccinated and "boosted", what is it up to 18 times now or something. Used be a popular phrase that "an apple a day keeps the doctor away", I guess that the time is coming when the phrase will become "a shot a day---does something we suppose".

No, I think the time is coming when almost all will agree that the vaccines make it unlikely that you will die or suffer severe illness; which is demonstrated fact. That's something, eh?

But I came into this thread to wish all a HAPPIER New Year, and to sympathize with Gards: I too have an elderly mother and have been prevented from visiting with her as I would like. Peace and hope.

Gards, I was wondering if MamaGards would be relocating to the house with the new healthcare workers don't have to isolate rule (FFS) in place. I'm not across all the new rules but hopefully that doesn't extend to aged care...or to Victoria. Over and down here we're going to every show we can during Fringe Festival and generally having last call get-togethers before borders open 5th Feb and we old folk hunker down for a bit.

Hope everyone has a safe and happy 2022. Especially hope for a Gards/Lisa reunion and wedding celebration 'cos that will make EVERYONE happy as chit!!

They have not greatly changed any rules here yet as far as I am aware.

I have established a down stairs outside bar at the Club and I serve from out of would normally be the canteen and people are happy with that. Especially some of the people I know who have a few beers whilst they are "walking the dog".

But I am staying away from any crowded indoor places for the time being and am due for my booster tomorrow, if I can find a spot somewhere to get it

If I want to go inside at the aged care joint I am meant to book in advance, mask up etc and go straight to Mamma Gards room.

The place that Mamma Gards is in have been pretty good through all of this crap. With restricting their staff to only working at one place and having proper disinfection routines and so on.

Most of the time I ride the pushie up to where she is and talk to her from a distance with my mask on through a chain wire back gate, as the place backs on parkland and we often watch the dogs run around when we are having a chat. When cases are really bad I stay away for a while, as last year one moronic Italian family would turn up with 6 of them and get right next to the fence and rave on without masks on, and I would get told off for telling them to fuck off. Management asked us to take a break for a while, so as not to to encourage dropkicks who were not do the right thing which I went along with and understood. But I was not happy with the other turds, whom I have been told often breach other sensible regulations inside the building as well.

Just waiting on the Moronic Slomo to announce something positive about all types of travel and when flights become available I am booking and we are hoping to get Lisa down here as well pre April

We also have our staycation accom booked for JazzFest time and certainly have our fingers and everything else crossed.

My mother lives in her home with one of my sisters. They and I are vaccinated/boostered. Some visits have occurred with me sitting at a distance, masked, or even seated outside talking through a storm door. The restrictions are a function of her anxiety and my conscience, no governmental bogeymen involved.

Good for you! Whatever it takes. I wish I had been able to do something like that in 2020 and early 2021 before losing my Dad to COVID in March. I brought it up to him but too late as soon after he caught it and withing 10 days passed away. Myself and my 2 sisters never got to see him for the last 2 years of his life as he already had breathing/lung issues and he was afraid to catch the virus which he somehow did anyway.
