I’m guilty as charged. As soon as I get to town I try to go see The Daywalkers, Kim Carson or The Iguanas instead of seeking out new bands. After a couple of days I get more adventurous

I'm in total agreement about T Marie and Bayou Juju and will be surprised if they aren't on the Fais Do Do stage next Fest. We found them in The Old Point back in March. Another up and coming New Orleans lady worthy of Threadhead consideration is Renee Gross whom we caught at 30x90 on a recent trip. Her mom Nancy Little Red Gross of the always solid little jump blues band LiL Red and Big Bad (take note Party) has been rocking the BMC for years. Renee has been singing backup with various NOLA folks and has a new and favorably reviewed EP out. I really like this Thread. Support the old and new!

My wife and I just have a great time every single time that we go to see LiL Red and Big Bad at BMC. I have even seen her up on stage with a drink in her hand. Shameful behavior!

So I figured this was worthy of its own thread.

Who are the new performers playing around town that you recommend? I guess you can define "new" for yourself, but for me, I'd say it's someone who plays locally now and wasn't performing (or rarely performing) here before the pandemic, or maybe someone who you just weren't aware of.

I'll start by throwing out two.

Layla Musselwhite moved to NOLA recently. She's the daughter of harmonica legend Charlie Musselwhite. She sings and plays acoustic guitar, in a style that ranges from old school blues to singer/songwriter. Upcoming shows include tonight at the Constantinople Stage and Oct 15 at the Blues & BBQ Fest.

Mahmoud Chouki moved to NOLA in 2017, but I first heard him within the last year or two. Originally from Morocco, one bio describes him as an "international master guitarist, composer, artistic director and multi instrumentalist. His performances and compositions consist of music from around the globe fusing oriental and occidental ethnic and electric style of music. He leans especially towards flamenco, jazz, and oriental styled music". Definitely a different sort of sound. I've only seen him online, but hope to catch him live either tonight at Zony or Sunday at Broadside.

Who are your favorite new bands?
Mahmoud Chouki was one of my favorite sets at fest, this past year! Thanks Canine, again!!

            Swag,
Thanks for starting this thread - I'm looking for new music... I will say we also loved Layla Musselwhite when we saw her and I've heard a lot about Renee Gros, I'm assuming it's the same singer Kemp, but you never know....
