  • Capulet: a great place to see music (and to eat and drink)

I didn't put this in the restaurant thread because it's hard to consider Capulet a restaurant. If you go to their website (https://www.capuletbywater.com/), they list themselves as a restaurant that's open Mon-Thu 4pm-10:30pm. I at first thought that was very strange hours for a restaurant, but I've since figured out that their primary raison d'etre is a function space, renting themselves out to weddings and other events on the weekends, and rather than go dark Mon-Thur, they open up and bill themselves as a restaurant. If you take a look at the menu, it's somewhat limited -- although I do enjoy the fried chicken sandwich and the kim chi melt with brisket -- but the quality is good. They also serve quality drinks and beer and wine at reasonable prices. But what has attracted me most is the live music, which is offered each of those nights from 6:30-9pm. Meschiya Lake has been a regular on Thursday nights, not doing her Little Big Horns set but instead playing guitar and banjo with Russell Welch, also on guitar, Chris Beroes-Haigis on cello, and a stand-up bass player who's name I'm forgetting. The setting is unbelievably relaxed, with tables spread apart and a handful of couches, and relatively small crowds, which I've really enjoyed, enjoying Meschiya, for example, more than I do at the Spotted Cat (no offense to the Spotted Cat). I suspect most of us don't know most of the musicians (Meschiya is taking the summer off; perhaps she's traveling), but it's a really nice and relaxing setting to see some local talent, have a drink or a glass of wine, and grab a bite to eat.

I love Capulet. I had a fabulous shrimp and sweet potato dish there but its no longer on the menu. also they have a large basket of fries for a dollar if you order a drink during happy hour. Fich ordered ours with nutritional yeast and it was so old school and yummy.
