  • Bombino - Broadside 9.16.23

Bombino was fantastic at the Broadside Saturday night. Louis Michot played first with fellow LBR members Korey Richey on bass pad and six string bass and Kirkland Middleton on drums doing a cool stripped down version of what they usually do from Louis' recent solo album. Bombino rocked it with his band, upping his game from the last time I saw him. Next to Tinariwen, he is my fav of the Tuareg artists.

The Broadside continues to improve, now with permanent bathrooms and Shaggy with his BBQ booth near the stage. It was the biggest crowd I've seen there and they were totally into it. Props to New Orleans for turning out in numbers and appreciating the music so completely. Everyone was standing but it was a genuine standing ovation at the end that seemed to really touch the band and resulted in two encores. It was a great night.

I guess I reached my 1 MB limit as I have some nice pics but couldn't upload them.

I agree. I bought it at the show and Bombino signed my copy. I only wish it had a booklet to translate the words.

Apologies for the slight thread drift, Chop, but you (and anyone else with adventurous ears) really need to check out Son Rompe Pera at the Broadside on October 15th. Two of the best shows I've seen this year. No idea how I managed to miss them at Jazz Fest in '22.

That was Bryan Webre on bass with Louis.
Broadside should get rid of this chairs. Take up too much space.

Excellent show. I missed them at Jazz Fest but it was fun kicking off their tour at a neighborhood venue like Broadside.
